Antenatal

Pregnancy is by definition a normal stage of life, not a disease. The role of the doctor and midwife is mainly three-fold:

* to prevent and detect potential difficulties or complications
* to support the couple
* to inform and educate regarding pregnancy, labour and postnatal care

First visit
* We will discuss your individual plan of pregnancy, based on history and previous births
* We will give advice on how to keep yourself and your pregnancy in good health
* We will prepare and deliver your personal folder
* We will answer any questions you may have

Initial booking tests
The booking tests involve testing your blood and urine to ensure that you are free from any condition that may affect your pregnancy and to have a baseline for the future. We can take the samples in the clinic and deliver them to a collaborating lab. This way, we make it easier and more economical for you. The results are ready in 1-2 working days and delivered to you on your next vist.
Unlike other countries, their is variation on the number of tests included in the booking package, depending on the attitude of the individual doctor. We follow intenational guidelines to perform only the tests that are necessary and are liklely to be of value.

Antenatal care
The number of visits depends on how your pregnancy goes. Generally, we intend to see you every month for the first 7 months and then every fortnight.

During each visit:
*The midwife will see you (and check your blood pressure, urine and listen to the baby)
* The midwife will discuss with the doctor, who may proceed to perform a scan of your pregnancy, if there is a valid indication
*You will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns with the midwife or doctor

Around the 7th month
*You have the option of receiving antenatal classes, so as to boost your knowledge and confidence in preparation for having your baby and afterwards.
* We will discuss about the pros and cons of collecting stem cells

Around your due date
We will discuss about how you can safely increase you chances to start labour on your own and, thus, avoid induction.
